About this product

The power gap is bridged with these premium performance, high frequency, bi-directional inverter-chargers.

BIC inverter-chargers are premium performance, high-frequency power products that wed a high wattage true sinewave power inverter with a high amp smart battery charger. Flexibility is key with input voltage versions available in either 12 volt DC for 12V batteries or 24 volt DC for 24V batteries; and output versions of either 120 volt AC or 230 volt AC.

Features

  • Combines a 3000W DC-AC inverter with a 80A multi-stage charger plus transfer switch.
  • True sinewave output identical to or better than power provided by the local power grid.
  • Multi-stage charging ensures batteries are charged to their maker’s recommendations.
  • Variable settings offered for Gel, Flooded, AGM, and Lithium battery compatibility.
  • High start-up surge rated at twice the continuous power rating.
  • High wattage power inverter • True sine wave output
  • This listing is the 230 Vac / 50 Hz international version.
  • 230Vac output versions available
  • High amperage battery charger
  • Micro-processor controlled

How it works

Plugged in to mains or a generator, the BIC1230100 passes the supply straight through to your sockets and recharges the battery bank at up to 100 A. Unplug, and it switches to inverting from the battery by itself in under 30 milliseconds, so fridges, card readers and laptops carry on. One unit does the work of an inverter, a mains charger and a changeover switch.

Will it run my appliances?

Laptop charger about 65 W
Compressor fridge 40–100 W running, 5× to start
Fan, TV, lights, router 10–60 W each
Microwave about 1,000 W
Espresso machine 1,200–1,500 W while heating
Induction hob 1,800–2,000 W on full

The BIC1230100 gives 3,000 W continuous with a 6,000 W peak for motors starting. Add up what runs at the same time and keep it under the continuous figure. Sizing a food truck or coffee cart? 230 V power for food trucks walks through the arithmetic.

Battery, cable and fuse

At full load the BIC1230100 draws about 280 A from a 12 V bank. Size the bank from what you run and for how long, not from the inverter's rating. Worked example, the same one as in our food truck guide: a coffee machine and fridge averaging 300–500 W across a six-hour day draw about 200–250 Ah, and Fullriver rate the DC series to 80% depth of discharge, so the bank is about 300 Ah. For this model we usually pair two DC260-12 in parallel (520 Ah).

KISAE's manual asks for at least AWG 4/0 (107 mm²) DC cable, no longer than 1.5 m (5 ft), with a fuse or breaker of at least 400 A at the battery. Ask on LINE and we quote the cable, lugs and fuse with your order.

The charger can be set to any value from 25 to 100 A. Fullriver recommend a bulk current of about 20% of the bank's capacity, so the full 100 A suits that 520 Ah bank, and the lower settings suit smaller banks. Not sure what you need? The sizing calculator gives a first answer and an engineer checks it for free.

Questions

Inverter-charger or separate inverter and charger?

If it plugs in to mains regularly, one inverter-charger is simpler to wire and switches over by itself. If it never sees mains, a pure sine wave inverter with a DC-DC charger does the job.

Which inverter-charger?

Model Continuous Peak Mains charger Display
Abso IC121040 1,000 W 2,000 W 40 A, four settings Detachable remote panel
Abso IC122055 2,000 W 4,000 W 55 A, four settings Detachable remote panel
Bidirectional BIC1220080 2,000 W 4,000 W 10–80 A, adjustable Multi-function display on a 7.6 m cable
Bidirectional BIC1230100 3,000 W 6,000 W 25–100 A, adjustable Multi-function display on a 7.6 m cable
Premier PPS1230200 3,000 W ask us 200 A, with MPPT solar input ask us

All are 12 V, pure sine wave, 230 V models. Between the two 2,000 W units, the Abso has a 55 A charger that suits banks of about 300 Ah; the Bidirectional charges at up to 80 A for banks of about 400 Ah or a faster turnaround between trading days.
